History of A&A
Over the years, A&A has successfully established itself as one of the most reliable and efficient luxury knitwear manufacturing companies with the sole goal of helping designers produce high-end fashionable knitwear.
Established in 1977 by Andy Wong and Amy Pang, A&A began as a small trading company in Hong Kong. In its first few years of operations, A&A focused their efforts in supplying the requirements of larger fashion and clothing department chains – clients sent their designs to A&A who would send these designs to a factory to generate the samples, and A&A would then export the garments back to their respected countries.
From the very beginning, A&A had a global market with numerous long-standing clients from the U.K., Germany and Scandinavia purposefully seeking out A&A for their knitwear production needs.
As the company grew and with burgeoning demand, A&A took the next step towards providing more for their clients – it was then that A&A built its own factory. By 1987, A&A began operations in their first factory in Hong Kong. Having their own factory made it easier for A&A to adhere to high standards of quality garments, as they were able to personally hire highly-skilled seamstresses and knitters.
In 1990, booming Hong Kong became a place not ideal for production with its high labor costs and labor shortages. A&A's refusal to raise the cost of manufacturing quality goods caused the company to relocate its factory from Hong Kong to Dongguan, China. Once the factory was established, A&A immediately invested in cutting-edge knitting machines in various knitting gauges, from the chunkiest 1.5 gg. to the finest 16 gg. to allow them to meet the versatile demands from the most meticulous customers. Working alongside an experienced labor team, A&A began – and continues to produce – high-quality knitwear with both woolen and worsted yarn.
Around this time, Andy Wong also changed the company's focus in a hope to minimize inventory and commercial risks. He allowed for small quantity order production as well as late and quick repeat orders. A&A also shifted its focus to cater to young designers and smaller chain shops. After conducting yarn, material and accessory research, developing new samples and collections, preparing prototype, exhibit, and sales samples A&A was able to efficaciously move towards this new direction as a company.
